“Should I Stay or Should I Go?” — Bulgaria’s Eurovision 2026 Star DARA Faces the Music

From top of the leaderboard to on the verge of backing out — Bulgaria’s freshly chosen Eurovision 2026 act might be gone before the postcards are even filmed.

Just days after winning Bulgaria’s national final and securing her ticket to Vienna, DARA has gone from celebratory prosecco to soul-searching press interviews. The singer revealed she’s considering stepping down from Eurovision altogether, citing a wave of post-victory backlash and accusations of a “rigged” selection.

In her own words:

“My desire has been crushed by the negative comments. I’ll make my final decision by the end of the day.”

Oof. That’s not exactly the energy we expect from someone who just beat the odds and booked a spot on the world’s most watched stage.

When the Applause Fades

It’s no secret that every Eurovision act gets their fair share of armchair critics — it’s practically part of the gig. But according to DARA, this felt different.

“The most hurtful thing is the distrust in my talent. That’s what really offends me.”

The backlash hasn’t just come from anonymous online commenters. Some figures from Bulgaria’s own music scene have also chimed in with less-than-encouraging takes — a twist that’s clearly hit a nerve.

Still, DARA’s not entirely without support. In the same interview, she acknowledged the wave of encouragement she’s received from fans and her team:

“I’m grateful to every person who supports me. They’re the ones holding me up and giving me strength to carry on.”

What’s Next for Bulgaria?

That’s the million-Eurovision-dollar question. If DARA does decide to withdraw, BNT may have to scramble for a replacement, either by choosing the runner-up or staging some kind of emergency selection — which, let’s be honest, wouldn’t exactly scream ‘strategic planning’.

But for now, it’s all eyes on DARA, as fans across Europe wait to see whether Bulgaria will keep its chosen star — or start again from square one.

One thing’s for sure: it’s never boring in the Balkans.
